Mystery Made Clear Decades After

What type of power made the DPRK vanquish the allied imperialist forces? This was an unsolved riddle former Portuguese President Francisco da Costa Gomes wanted the solution for so long.

He was known as a high-ranking statesmen and military master with service record in the NATO headquarters as senior officer. He began to have this puzzle in the early 1950s when he served as chief of staff of Portuguese army stationed in Macao. At the time Macao was the rest centre for the “UN forces” of the Korean War where a number of generals of the military from various countries used to come together. Naturally, the main topic when Gomes met them had focused on the war results being marked by the army of the DPRK.

Later he left the military for a political career and to study the ideas and philosophies of different schools in all times and places. During his period of research he became greatly interested in the Juche idea of the DPRK.

He visited the DPRK twice to meet President Kim Il Sung.

In spring of 1982 President Kim Il Sung met him and gave him a logical answer item by item about what he wanted to know.

To his unreserved request on the relations between the leader and people in the DPRK, President Kim Il Sung told with a smile: During my lifetime I enjoyed the love of the people. The history of my struggle proves that victory is in store for those who win the love and support of the people and struggle relying on their strength.

That day Costa Gomes wrote his deep impression as follows: I seemed to have found out today the mystery remained unsolved so far from the time of Macao, the secret as to how the army of the newly founded Republic won the Korean War. A country led by an outstanding leader and possessed of a great idea is strong in all times.
